Frequently Asked Questions

. . . Before Your First Class
-
Do I need Pilates experience before attending Anthropé?
No! If you are new to Anthropé, your first step is our Intro to Anthropé class. This class introduces you to our reformer equipment, studio terminology, and movement principles so you can safely and confidently participate in regular classes.

Clients may substitute a single private lesson instead of taking Intro to Anthropé.

-
How early should I arrive?
Please plan to arrive 5 minutes before class begins so you have time to get settled and be ready on your reformer when class starts.
Arriving early is appreciated, but please do not arrive more than 10 minutes before class. If another class is still in session, please wait quietly in the waiting area so as not to disturb the prior class.
-
What happens if I arrive late?
Classes begin promptly at the scheduled time. Clients arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be permitted to join class and will be considered a no-show.
This policy exists for your safety. Missing the beginning of class means missing the warm-up and preparation needed to safely perform reformer exercises. It also allows us to maintain a focused and uninterrupted experience for the rest of the class. No-show fees apply.

. . . What To Wear & Bring
-
What should I wear to Pilates?
Please wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows your instructor to see your alignment and movement clearly.
The best options are similar to what you would wear to yoga, barre, or the gym:
-
Leggings or fitted athletic pants/shorts
-
A fitted top, athletic shirt, or sports bra
-
Comfortable movement-friendly clothing
We recommend fitted clothing because it allows your instructor to provide better corrections and feedback. Loose clothing can shift during movement and make it more difficult to see proper form.
Please avoid:
-
Jeans
-
Clothing with buttons or zippers
-
Anything with hardware that could scratch the reformer
-
Clothing that may become revealing during movement
Please be especially mindful of zippers on back pockets, waistbands, and ankles, as these can damage the reformer upholstery.
-
Are there clothing requirements?
Yes. All clients must wear appropriate athletic clothing, including a top, a bottom, and close-toed socks.
Please ensure clothing is not transparent or revealing during movement. Pilates includes positions where your legs may be elevated or extended, so choose clothing that allows you to move comfortably while maintaining appropriate coverage.
For clients wearing loose shorts, we recommend wearing fitted shorts or compression shorts underneath.
-
Do I need sticky socks?
Sticky socks are recommended for all classes.
For Foundations and Beginner classes, any clean close-toed socks are acceptable.
Intermediate level and above classes require close-toed sticky socks for safety and stability on the reformer. We sell an assortment of sticky socks for $15+tax per pair.
Please wash your sticky socks between uses. Socks used for Pilates should be treated like any other workout clothing (they should be cleaned after each class)
-
What should I bring?
Please bring:
-
A water bottle
-
Sticky socks (if required)
-
A hair tie if needed
Hair clips are discouraged because they can interfere with alignment and may damage the equipment. A hair tie or scrunchie is preferred.

. . . Studio Etiquette
-
Can I bring my phone into class?
Phones should be silenced and stored away during class.
Please do not keep your phone in your pocket or beside your reformer. This allows you to fully focus on your practice and prevents distractions for yourself and others.

The exception is for clients who are actively on call and need to remain reachable for professional reasons.
-
Can I bring food, drinks, or other beverages into the studio?
Only plain, unflavored water is permitted near the reformers.
Please do not bring beverages with added ingredients, including electrolytes, powders, or anything containing sugar.
-
Can I bring my child with me?
No. Children under 18 are not permitted inside the studio.
The reformer equipment and studio environment are not safe spaces for children to wait, and there is not a supervised waiting area available.
Please arrange childcare before arriving.
-
Can I talk before class?
Please be mindful of other classes that may still be in session.
If another class is ending when you arrive, please wait quietly and avoid loud conversations inside the studio until the previous class has finished.

. . . Scheduling & Cancellations
-
What is the cancellation policy?
Anthropé has a 12-hour cancellation policy.
Cancellations made less than 12 hours before class will be charged in full.
Please cancel as early as possible so another client has the opportunity to attend.
Why does Anthropé enforce a cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy exists to respect the time, preparation, and work of our instructors.

When you reserve a spot in a class, your instructor is setting aside that time specifically for you. At Anthropé, your instructor is not simply showing up for the 50 minutes you see in the studio. Our teachers take time before class to prepare, review who is attending, consider each client's experience level and goals, and thoughtfully plan a class that best serves the people who are scheduled to be there.

This personalized approach is what allows us to provide a more intentional and effective experience than a one-size-fits-all class. Your instructor is preparing for you before you ever step onto the reformer.
When a client cancels within the late cancellation window, it prevents another client from taking that spot while also taking away the instructor's opportunity to be compensated for the time they reserved and prepared for.
Anthropé believes that instructors should still be fairly compensated when a late cancellation or no-show occurs. We believe the person who dedicated their time, expertise, and preparation to your class should be valued as a professional.
Thank you for respecting your instructor's time and supporting the teaching team that makes Anthropé possible.

I can't find Intro to Anthropé on the schedule
Intro to Anthropé is held weekly at various times throughout the month to try and accommodate as many schedules as possible. If you don't see it in the schedule, keep scrolling, as it's not held daily.
-
What if I am sick?
Please do not attend class if you are sick or experiencing contagious symptoms.
Our classes take place in a close environment, and protecting the health of our small community is extremely important.

. . . Safety & Studio Policies
-
Why does Anthropé have a level system?
Our class levels are designed around safety, familiarity, and experience with the Anthropé method.
Levels are not based on athletic ability or how difficult a workout feels. They are based on your comfort and control with the reformer, your understanding of studio terminology, and your ability to safely perform increasingly complex movements.
-
Can I move up levels whenever I feel ready?
All level advancements require instructor approval.
This allows us to ensure that every client is progressing safely and that classes continue to flow effectively for everyone.
Please see our class descriptions page for more info

How do memberships work?
Memberships are a 3 month contract in which clients agree to commit to three full months at the advertised price of the contract. There are no early terminations, but contracts can be suspended for up to one month for vacations or illness/injuries after the first three months have been completed.
Memberships auto-renew every three months. Client must contact the studio directly to request that their contract not be auto-renewed.

Memberships allow a set amount of classes per month. Unused classes do not roll over to the next month. The standard studio cancellation policies apply.
